ENERGIZE YOURSELF

You invest energy into every activity and person in your day. There are three possible outcomes from your energy investment: energy is drained from you, your energy level is unchanged or your energy level increases. When you have too many activities or people in your day that deplete your energy, you end up tired and cranky. As you go through your day, pay attention to how you feel. Check after any activity or interaction:

  • Do you feel light (walking on air) or heavy (walking in gooey mud) or grounded?
  • Are you smiling or frowning or expressionless?
  • Are you happy or frustrated or neutral?
  • Is there any tension in your face, jaw, neck, shoulders, back or abdomen?
  • When activities and people leave you feeling happy, light and smiling, then you know you are getting a positive return on your energy investment. The more of these activities and people we have in our life, the more enjoyable life becomes. To have more energy for the things you really want in your life, here are some questions to ask yourself:

  • What energy-depleting activities or people can I eliminate from my life?
  • How can I add more activities and people that energize me into my day?
  • What can I do differently to reduce or eliminate the energy drain from commitments I cannot drop?
  • Warning: Anyone with severe exhaustion or an inability to get out of bed in the morning or who believes that they may be suffering from depression should seek immediate help from a medical professional.
